The Great Hall is the heart of Forter Castle. It is a fabulous space for entertaining and spans the entire width of the building. Traditionally furnished with modern comforts, the Hall is dominated by an inglenook fireplace that sits as the focal point of the room. It is the unofficial meeting place for Guests at the Castle, where people naturally gather and come together to plan or reflect on the day's happenings. The expansive dining table seats up to sixteen comfortably, or a buffet for twenty-six, with all tableware supplied. The exquisite hand-painted ceiling details a mural completed by Edinburgh-trained and trompe-l’oeil specialist, Jennifer Merredew. The artwork bears the legend of the castle imbued on the beams, which are painted in colourways linking to those used in the 16th Century. There is vast soft seating in the form of two expansive large Ralph Lauren sofas, and wing back chairs upholstered in the finest goatskin leather.
