Forter Castle
Forter Castle is a unique and memorable holiday destination. The magnificent 450-year-old Scottish castle has been lovingly and painstakingly restored to its former glory by a father-daughter duo, and now within its walls sits a truly luxurious, inviting and comfortable interior.
Originally built in 1560 by the Oglivys of Airlie, its principal reason for construction was to act as a ‘fortalice,’ protecting the entrance to the Balloch pass to Glenshee and the important Moneca Pass to Braemar and the North.
The historic building fell in 1640, and for years it lay in ruins until Robert Pooley purchased what was left of the castle and began to restore it back to its former glory in 1988. Daughter, and luxury interior designer Katharine, joined the cause and the result is an incredibly unique and special lodgings, where all 21st century creature comforts have been added, whilst still retaining the original charm and layout of the adobe.
